When Women in Aviation International (WAI) shared the opportunity for their chapters around the world to launch a new annual Girls in Aviation Day celebration in September, the Stars of the North Chapter in Minnesota soared into action. President Jenny Nietfeld assembled a strong group of team leaders who executed a plan that served 1,000 people, creating the largest chapter experience in the world.
The women and men in the Stars of the North Chapter represent all aspects of aviation and provide mentorship, leadership, outreach, scholarships and fun for their members. They meet monthly, participating in aviation career events, interview prep, pilot controller forums, behind the scenes tours, glider flights, barbeques and more.
“The Stars of the North WAI chapter is a truly dynamic group of people who are fantastic role models for today’s young people,” said Kristi Rollag Wangstad, AirSpace Minnesota president. “They have a deep commitment to sharing their talents and support with their membership and with the larger community. It was a real privilege for AirSpace Minnesota to participate in this experience, and we congratulate Stars of the North for leading the way in the inaugural WAI Girls International Aviation Day.”
